Why test title formulas before scaling?
A title formula that looks clean for 3 sample values can produce duplicates, truncated titles, or generic-sounding output at scale. The most common failure modes: two variable combinations that produce identical titles, modifier values that are too short to add meaningful differentiation, and formulas where the variable lands at the end and gets truncated at 60 characters.
Run your formula with at least 10 realistic modifier combinations before building. Flag any generated title outside the 50-60 character optimal range and reposition the key variable earlier in the formula.
Reading the output
Green badges indicate titles in the 50-60 character range. Yellow badges flag titles that are slightly short (45-49 chars) or slightly long (61-70 chars). Red badges indicate titles that are likely to be truncated or too thin to be competitive. Fix formula structure issues before launching - a title problem at the template level affects every page in the set.
