What makes a good SEO URL slug?
A good URL slug is short, readable, and contains your target keyword. Google uses URL slugs as a ranking signal — a slug that matches search intent reinforces your page's relevance. Keep slugs under 5 words where possible, use hyphens (not underscores) as word separators, and avoid stop words like "the", "and", "of".
Should you change slugs on existing pages?
Be careful changing slugs on live pages — you'll need to set up a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new one. Without a redirect, you lose all the backlink equity pointing to the old URL. For new pages, always set the slug before publishing.
