Alt text (alternative text) serves two purposes: it describes images to screen reader users who cannot see them, and it helps search engines understand what your images depict - which contributes to Google Image Search rankings and overall page relevance signals.
Good alt text is specific and descriptive. It tells you exactly what's in the image in 10-15 words. If the image is purely decorative (e.g. a divider line), use an empty alt attribute: alt="". For informative images, always include relevant context and your keyword if it genuinely matches what the image shows.
